I had a lot of encouragement early on from my grandma, we called her Granny. I didn’t realise it at the time but Granny had a way of knowing my motivations and anxieties more than I knew them myself, and a way of encouraging with more than just words. When I didn’t know what to paint next, Granny had a request.
In early 2020 Granny started a monthly subscription of Australian bird paintings for $50, becoming my first customer. This gesture meant a lot at a time where I didn’t know how to put a monetary value on my work, and also taught me the importance of continued practice and consistency.
With the Australian bird series Granny encouraged me to connect with the Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre, where I sold postcards and stickers for some time. This experience taught me that through art I could have a positive impact on the things that I care about.
